The Engagement

Several times during the relationship, we did get to talk about settling down. She is stable, I am stable. So there wasn’t really much reason to further delay anything. And after reading this blog, NO ONE can tell us we need more time to get to know each other =).

But before I actually proposed, I went up to her parents first to ask for their blessing. On December 16 last year, a few days before my birthday, I then took Jen to the UP Chapel. I had to invent an excuse to go to the UP Chapel. I just told her it was my birthday ritual. Which actually wasn’t. But that was a white lie since that place was special to us. I had to surprise her right? =)

Coincidentally, somebody was getting married there that day. So my initial plan to propose to her in front of the altar failed. After a short prayer I decided to take her to the UP Sunken Garden.  I said I wanted to eat ice cream...which would have been weird because it was cold that morning and it's about to rain. But I had to take her there!

While seated there I gave her a Starbucks Planner…

Ok, in my defense: Jen was telling me how much she wanted to have that planner. And so I had to treat lots of people to get that =) So that wasn’t just a planner. It was “THE” planner. I needed an accessory. In “THE” planner, I wrote a note.

She opened the planner and didn’t expect to find anything. But then she got curious of something that was written at the back. She read the note…and started to cry. And that was exactly the emotion I was waiting for… I took out from my jacket a red box, opened it and I asked her, “Will you marry me?”

By now you know,  She said “Yes” right?… And no, I will not tell what I wrote on the planner =)

Our engagement was exactly how we wanted it to be – warm, private and intimate. Later that day, we passed by my grandparents’ grave to pay our respects. Then we went home where an engagement party was waiting for us. We then went to Jen’s house where I gave her mother a bouquet of flowers, and his father, a handshake.
